1 Cent – Benjamin Franklin (imperforate; type pending verification)

DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEM Classic imperforate United States postage stamp from the 1851–1857 issue, featuring Benjamin Franklin in deep blue. The album attribution points to Type III / Scott 8. On this particular specimen, however, the heavy cancellation and surface wear prevent a reliable visual confirmation of the breaks in both outer frame lines. The stamp is heavily used, with uneven margins, substantial rubbing and an old label on the reverse. CATALOGUE IDENTIFICATION AND PROBABLE VARIANT Working identification: Scott 8. Most likely attribution: the common/base Scott 8 variant; no scarcer subtype is assumed without physical evidence. Confidence: low. Possible alternatives: the value potential depends on securely establishing Type III and the plate position. Because of the heavy cancellation, wear and reverse-side defects, expert plating examination and a certificate are recommended.
